“Murakami is like a magician who explains what he’s doing as he performs the trick and still makes you believe he has supernatural powers . . . But while anyone can tell a story that resembles a dream, it's the rare artist, like this one, who can make us feel that we are dreaming it ourselves.” —The New York Times Book Review

The year is 1984 and the city is Tokyo.

A young woman named Aomame follows a taxi driver’s enigmatic suggestion and begins to notice puzzling discrepancies in the world around her. She has entered, she realizes, a parallel existence, which she calls 1Q84 —“Q is for ‘question mark.’ A world that bears a question.” Meanwhile, an aspiring writer named Tengo takes on a suspect ghostwriting project. He becomes so wrapped up with the work and its unusual author that, soon, his previously placid life begins to come unraveled.
As Aomame’s and Tengo’s narratives converge over the course of this single year, we learn of the profound and tangled connections that bind them ever closer: a beautiful, dyslexic teenage girl with a unique vision; a mysterious religious cult that instigated a shoot-out with the metropolitan police; a reclusive, wealthy dowager who runs a shelter for abused women; a hideously ugly private investigator; a mild-mannered yet ruthlessly efficient bodyguard; and a peculiarly insistent television-fee collector.
A love story, a mystery, a fantasy, a novel of self-discovery, a dystopia to rival George Orwell’s—1Q84 is Haruki Murakami’s most ambitious undertaking yet: an instant best seller in his native Japan, and a tremendous feat of imagination from one of our most revered contemporary writers.

I'm sure I'm not the only one spazzing over this masterpiece! I've only read two novels by Haruki Murakami, but I'm almost sure that I'll always be able to see something beautiful and special about everything he writes. There's nothing like the music in his prose, and his ability to transform the ordinary into an extraordinary dimension. 1Q84 promises to be no less than epic! It's synopsis seems a whirlwind of people, places and things, but I look forward to going on a journey with Aomame and Tengo. I'm sure it'll be so bizarre that no one could predict it's outcome. It's also a staggering 944 pages. Hopefully it won't take me an entire year, God Willing, to read it!

Happy Book Birthday, Haruki Murakami. Thank you for supplying us with masterful imagination candy!

The noise between Patch and Nora is gone. They’ve overcome the secrets riddled in Patch’s dark past...bridged two irreconcilable worlds...faced heart-wrenching tests of betrayal, loyalty, and trust...and all for a love that will transcend the boundary between heaven and earth. Armed with nothing but their absolute faith in each other, Patch and Nora enter a desperate fight to stop a villain who holds the power to shatter everything they’ve worked for—and their love—forever.

I'm so late giving my birthday wishes to one of the most anticipated finales of the year! Becca Fitzpatrick knew what she was doing when she created the cheekiest angel of them all....Oh, Patch.  I remember when I first read Hush Hush, following the recommendations of my fellow YA fiends, and I've been entranced ever since! I'm looking forward to seeing how Fitzpatrick wraps up this fantastic series, and what most excites me is that I cannot predict which way it will turn!

Happy Book Birthday to Becca Fitzpatrick! Thank you very much for writing such a fantastic series with characters sure to become the forerunners for anyone else who wants to write about Angels!

“Spectacular! The Hollow keeps you reading from beginning to end without coming up for air.” --L.J. Smith, bestselling author of The Vampire Diaries and Night World

- Barnes & Noble

I'm SOOO excited for this finale! This series has followed me through several important moments in my life, making me all the more bias to it. Nevertheless, The Hollow Series is a jewel in YA Supernatural fiction! Jessica Verday has penned a wonderful gothic romance that is incredibly fresh and layered. I've not only fallen in love with Caspian and Abbey's romance, but also the lovely details of which Verday embeds in her descriptions of Sleepy Hollow, Abbey's perfuming talent, and the mystery surrounding them! The series in incredibly addictive, and as I said earlier, I'm so excited to finish it off, though sad that it's over! I may even do a little series of posts on this towards the end of this month...watch out for it!

Happy Book Birthday, Jessica Verday, and thanks for an awesome series! Looking forward to your next work!

A mesmerizing, moving, and elegantly written debut novel, The Language of Flowers beautifully weaves past and present, creating a vivid portrait of an unforgettable woman whose gift for flowers helps her change the lives of others even as she struggles to overcome her own troubled past.
The Victorian language of flowers was used to convey romantic expressions: honeysuckle for devotion, asters for patience, and red roses for love. But for Victoria Jones, it’s been more useful in communicating grief, mistrust, and solitude. After a childhood spent in the foster-care system, she is unable to get close to anybody, and her only connection to the world is through flowers and their meanings.
Now eighteen and emancipated from the system, Victoria has nowhere to go and sleeps in a public park, where she plants a small garden of her own. Soon a local florist discovers her talents, and Victoria realizes she has a gift for helping others through the flowers she chooses for them. But a mysterious vendor at the flower market has her questioning what’s been missing in her life, and when she’s forced to confront a painful secret from her past, she must decide whether it’s worth risking everything for a second chance at happiness. -Barnes & Noble

I am SO excited about The Language of Flowers (BN/Amazon)! I've always been so intrigued about how those in the Victorian Era used flowers to communicate so many things. I would love for our generation to go back to this kind of romance. It's a bit like handwritten letters and lock's of hair given in an envelope! In my own novel, I touch on this beautiful art a bit, and I'm so chuffed to see how it factors out in this novel. The story line also seems very layered, what with the romance of flowers, blending with the reality of a life spent in foster homes, or mistreatment.  I have such expectation for beautiful writing! I'm hoping to pick this one up very soon!

Happy Book Birthday, Vanessa Diffenbaugh, and thank you very much for writing a novel that will no doubt keep us intrigued!

Continuing all the steamy romance of the first two books, New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Simone Elkeles gives fans one more satisfying taste of the irresistible Fuentes boys.

This is my first time hearing of the 'Perfect Chemistry' novels, and it figures that it would have to be the third one. Where have I been? Nevertheless, the novels' synopsis seems intricately layered, with balances of pain and happiness experienced throughout life. It pulled me in, immediately, and the more I read what it's about, the more I'm intrigued with how Luis will overcome the shadows that seem to overtake his life.

I love reading novels that celebrate various ethnic cultures, and it's lovely to see novels like these showcased amidst YA Romance. After reading a few reviews of Elkeles' other novels Perfect Chemistry, and Rules of Attraction, I can't wait to trek backwards and read those as well!

Get a load of this cover...quite steamy!

Happy Book Birthday, Simone Elkeles, and thank you very much for writing this wonderful novel!

Have any of you read the "Perfect Chemistry" novels? What are your thoughts?

"These violent delights have violent ends And in their triumph die, like fire and powder,

Which as they kiss consume."
—Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare

The most tragic love story in history . . .
Juliet Capulet didn't take her own life. She was murdered by the person she trusted most, her new husband, Romeo Montague, a sacrifice made to ensure his own immortality. But what Romeo didn't anticipate was that Juliet would be granted eternity, as well, and would become an agent for the Ambassadors of Light. For 700 years, she's fought Romeo for the souls of true lovers, struggling to preserve romantic love and the lives of the innocent. Until the day she meets someone she's forbidden to love, and Romeo, oh Romeo, will do everything in his power to destroy that love.
From the Hardcover edition.
-Barnes & Noble

I'm so excited to participate in my first Book Birthday Shout Out, hosted by the lovelies over at Bewitched Bookworms! I was drawn to Juliet Immortal after watching a TBR Vlog that April of Good Books and Good Wine posted. This novel sounds phenomenal! I love when authors compose retellings of classics that we know and love with new spins.  Sounds like a lovely charge for chivalric, ideal love, with a new twist. I can totally see Romeo becoming an arch-nemesis of love! Not to mention, who's the hot lovely who's managed to dim Romeo's spotlight?

The cover is so simplistically beautiful! It seems to portray all of the beauty and madness Juliet must go through in this tale. I can't wait to purchase it for myself. In the meantime, Happy Birthday Juliet Immortal, and many blessings to Stacey Jay for writing it!
